What's happening in Northern Ireland

NI geriatricians have been meeting on an 'ad hoc' basis within their current Board structures to discuss the service restructuring which is taking place with respect to providing more care in the community for older people and also with respect to the new 5 trusts which have come into 'shadow' operation on 1st October.

A further half time geriatrician has been appointed to the Belfast area trust and we hope that others will follow as job work plan re-structuring takes place.

We have made some progress on a campaign for a Commissioner for Older People in that there have been 2 reports in the press, urging progress on the subject.
