BGS Standing Committee
Academic and Research

The Academic and Research (A&R) Committee has overall guardianship of the Society's grants, prizes and fellowships. With the exception of the Nurse's and Therapist's study grants, the medical student's vacation grant and the Young Doctor's Education Grant (governed through the Education & Training Committee), the A&R provides the adjudicators for all the other grants.

The A&R also oversees academic and research related published work, including adjudicating abstracts submitted for BGS Scientific meetings, assessing the presentations at the meetings for publication as an abstract supplement in the Age & Ageing journal.

The A&R has organisational responsibility for the Society's scientific programme at the BGS Scientific meetings for supporting researchers and for raising the profile of academic medicine.

The A&R is the primary liaison link with all the Society's special interest groups and the Society's involvement in clinical/academic consultations (NICE). It also oversees the work of the Clinical Practice Evaluation Committee.
