Clinical Excellence Award Advisors
(formerly known as father figures)
In the past, the principal responsibility of the BGS Father Figures was to suggest colleagues who were worthy of serious consideration for distinction awards, now re-named Clinical Excellence Awards.
In 2004, the Advisory Committee on Clinical Excellence Awards determined that professional societies that make nominations for awards should do so on the basis that their members self-nominate. The future role of Father Figures, as they were known then, in the nomination process was therefore called into question and it was agreed that the existing Father Figures and Regional Secretaries in England and Wales be canvassed for their views. The survey resulted in support for the continuation of the Father Figures’ role in identifying potential nominees and as someone who could provide guidance to candidates in completing their application forms. The name of the position has been changed to that of "Clinical Excellence Award Advisors" (CEAA).
The principal responsibility of the CEAA remains to suggest to colleagues that they apply for a BGS nomination, offer to provide advice in completing the documentation, and provide citations for those selected for BGS nominations.
