The BGS is not involved with question setting or examining the Diploma in Geriatric Medicine (DGM). However prospective candidates studying for the DGM and other similar qualifications frequently approach the BGS Office requesting information on suitable reading materials.

Most of the educational curriculum is well covered in the smaller books in Geriatric Medicine eg Lecture Notes in Geriatrics (Coni), or Essential Facts in Geriatric Medicine (Bracewell, Gray and Rai), augmented by relevant clinical experience. However, further reading is recommended and this list of reference books, journals and educational materials provides some additional sources of information for those preparing for such examinations.

Guidelines on a variety of important clinical areas eg falls, intermediate care and continuing care can be found on the BGS website (pdf format)

Topical political debate can also be sampled via the website and the BGS Newsletter.

To explore topics even further, the main BGS Reading List is an additional resource and available on the rest of the training section of the compendium of policy and good practice.
