On 12 November the Department of Health announced that all new nurses will be educated to degree level from 2013.  (Visit: http://www.dh.gov.uk/en/News/Recentstories/DH_108359) The BGS Nurse Consultant Special Interest Group supports this development.

“We support the move to an all graduate nursing qualification which recognises the complexity and diversity of skills and knowledge required to manage care for individuals, in particular older people and those with long term conditions. Today, nurses often play a leading role in managing patient care.  We therefore welcome the opportunity to debate and to review the educational needs for the present and future workforce to ensure the delivery of innovative and appropriate high quality care.”
