Research and Personal Development Sessions for Trainees
It is important that trainees have time to pursue their personal development. For some trainees this will include work on research interests, while others may wish to pursue further development in teaching or management. It is suggested that all trainees in Geriatric Medicine have two timetabled sessions per week to allow this.
The provisos to this are:
- The trainee and educational supervisor will agree defined outcomes from the sessions as part of the trainee’s learning plan and these will be reviewed at appraisal and RITA. They should not be regarded as “free time”.
- The trainee should be able to pass his/her bleep to a colleague during these sessions, but if he/she plans to be outside the hospital, must inform their educational supervisor of their whereabouts.
- The sessions are not given during weeks when a Regional Training Day takes place; these days are included in the 30-day allowance for study leave but the two personal sessions are not.
