Education and Training

Welcome to the Education and Training pages of the BGS website aimed at medical students contemplating geriatrics as a specialty; trainee specialists in geriatric medicine; as well as trainers. The pages are the combined effort of the Education and Training Committee (ETC) and the Trainees Committee. All the pages can be accessed by hovering your mouse over the menu items to the left. In brief, the section is comprised of:

For medical students: A career in geriatric medicine

For Trainees (and all geriatricians involved with trainees and training):
A section to help work through the many changes currently occurring in specialist training. The rate of change has felt overwhelming for many (not least the number of new acronyms!) Here you will find information on the curriculaassessments (including Knowledge-based assessement) and the eportfolio, as well as a page of frequently asked questions. The ETC works very closely with the Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in Geriatric Medicine. Many of the links will be to the appropriate pages of the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board website.

For Trainees interested in the possibility of doing research:
The merits of doing research; useful tips on how to find a project; getting off to a good start; useful links for trainees; tips for doing a good presentation; submitting your work; finding a funder; and much more (hover over the menu for more details)

Administrative stuff
The BGS trainees' constitution; who is your trainees' committee; who are your regional trainee reps etc (again, consult the menu for more detail).
