JRCPTB

Curriculum and assessment
New StR’s (appointed August 1st 2007 onwards) should be following the new curriculum and assessment methods available on the JRCPTB web site.

RITAS and ARCP
For New StR’s (appointed August 1st 2007 onwards) RITAs have been replaced with Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP). RITAs still apply to existing trainees (SpR’s). StRs will need to have full MRCP by the end of ST3 or they will be given a RITA E (Outcome 3 in ARCP parlance).

Acute Medicine Level 3
If not already in place arrangements should be made for trainees wishing to achieve Acute Medicine level 3 competencies and a CCT in Acute Medicine.

Out of Programme Experience
For the new StR’s only (1st August 2007 onwards) there are new definitions of OOP experience. OOPT – Training; OOPR – Research; OOPE – other experience not counting towards the CCT; OOPC – career breaks.

Supervised “acting up” as a consultant for up to 3 months w.t.e. in the last year of training does count and will be added to our curriculum. You must however let Kirstin Barnett know (see link to JRCPTB). If any experience is part of our core Geriatric Medicine curriculum it will not be classed as out of programme experience EXCEPT for a year in stroke for a subspecialty certificate or acute medicine level 3. Trainees can have 1 year out of programme on approved research BUT this is an alternative to stroke or acute medicine not in addition.  Trainees can have more than 1 year out of programme if approved by the deanery but only 1 year will count towards their CCT. However full time training in other subspecialty areas will count towards this year even though not officially “out of programme”. For research, trainees will need to find their own funding.

For stroke training to certificate level a stroke fellowship post must be obtained in open competition. A prospective application for out of programme experience to the deanery and JRCPTB should be made. Similarly for Acute Medicine level 3 training for a CCT in Acute Medicine posts must be applied for in open competition and prospective approval for training sort from the trainee's deanery and an application forwarded to JRCPTB.  For all out of programme experience successful completion should be confirmed by the deanery following a supervisor's report and other assessments and an application for recognition towards CCT to the JRCPTB should be made
