Vacancy: Consultant Geriatrician, Sligo University Hospital
We are seeking a consultant in geriatric medicine with drive, commitment and enthusiasm who will bring a consistent focus to high performance and quality of care, working collaboratively with colleagues and providing clinical leadership to the wider team.
This post is an innovative exciting position to develop a new model of care, to support early discharge for older people and avoid unnecessary admission to Hospital. The post holder will work across our hospital and community sites. It will have an 80% remit in the community (4 days per week) and 20% (1 day per week) to Sligo University Hospital with all the entitlements to services that our current Consultants have i.e. admitting rights and diagnostics. There will be a cross border element with West Fermanagh, Northern Ireland.
The Medicine for Older People department at Sligo University Hospital has three dynamic Consultant Geriatricians providing a comprehensive service that includes stroke, Orthogeriatric medicine, and general internal acute and chronic medicine. We have built up excellent links with our community partners in Community Health Organisation 1 and now wish to progress services into the community to our frail older population. Sligo University Hospital is a busy teaching acute site with an active Stroke Unit and specialist frail older person pathway/ward.
The department prides itself on its services for, geriatric patients, rehabilitative care and Orthogeriatric patients. The post holder will work in partner-ship with existing Consultant colleagues, a team including case manager, clinical nurse specialist, advanced nurse practitioners, nursing and therapy teams as part of a multi-professional team. The posts offer the opportunity to live in a beautiful location in the North West of Ireland which has an urban/rural mix. Road networks have improved greatly to our main cities of Dublin, Belfast, Derry, Galway, and Cork. We are also accessible to a number of airports, Knock, Derry, Dublin, Belfast and Shannon.
