The Audrey Emerton Building, Eastern Road, Brighton BN2 0AE

Trainees with an Interest in Perioperative Medicine (TRIPOM)

Who should attend?

Anyone involved in perioperative medicine which includes the following specialities:

- Care of the Elderly Physicians

- Orthogeriatricians

- Anaesthetists

- Surgeons

- Critical Care Physicians

- Physiotherapists

- Foundation Doctors

Why attend?

We aim to hold a series of one-day events promoting and informing healthcare professionals about perioperative medicine. The Royal College of Anaesthetists (RCOA) has published a vision document emphasising the key role Care of the Elderly Physicians play in minimising perioperative risk, especially in providing integrated care as well as recognising and managing frailty in surgical patients.

We at TRIPOM have recruited Care of the Elderly Physicians such as Dr. David Shipway (North Bristol NHS Trust) and Dr. Philip Braude (Guys and St Thomas') to present topics such as frailty and proactive care of older people undergoing surgery ("POPS").

There will be at least one presentation per event that specifically focus on the older surgical patient. Other presentations will include perioperative fluid management, risk stratification, prehabilitation, perioperative quality improvement programme (PQIP) and a RCOA perioperative medicine update.

We aim to have adequate representation of all specialities relevant to perioperative medicine to be present at all our events. As such, we would be very grateful if you could promote our national roadshow in BGS’s newsletters and emails.

We would be happy to reciprocate in kind and even participate in BGS events that relate to the older perioperative patient.

The following are the dates and locations of these events. Each event is free of charge for attendees and is validated for six continuous professional development points by the RCOA.
