All Regions Update Winter 2023

South West Thames

The South West Thames region encourages applications from committee members of all grades/ MDT roles. We would love to have a wide representation of health professionals to work with us on our educational events and highlighting work of BGS members across the regions.

Please contact m [dot] stewart [at] bgs [dot] org [dot] uk (Mark Stewart )for more information.

West Midlands

West Midlands trainee and BGS education and training representative Sarah True was part of the organising team for the first BGS quality improvement workshop for medical students. The aim of the workshop was to build understanding and interest in QI and geriatric medicine amongst medical students as potential geriatricians of the future. The event was a success, with 50 attendees who heard from both experienced clinicians and their peers who had successfully completed excellent QI projects. Interactive workshops also allowed attendees to plan their own QI projects including reducing inpatient falls and recognising delirium We hope to have a follow up meeting in the next few months to hear how these projects have been applied in clinical practice.

As with many other NHSE regions, Midlands is also taking part in the #ReconditiontheNation initiative.

There are two key aims:

1. To prevent deconditioning and promote reconditioning and

2. To improve staff morale and bring joy in their day to day work.

All hospitals, care homes, councils, people and staff in domiciliary care, voluntary sector, primary care, ambulances etc. are involved. These are Games for Everyone.

Contact a [dot] graham [at] bgs [dot] org [dot] uk for resources and an invite letter to join. So far over 200 medals have been awarded nationally with Midlands and east of England regions leading the medals tally.

Please do consider taking part. There are no long forms to fill, all good fun and games but in turn it benefits patient outcomes and staff well-being. In return those who take part get certificates, medals and badges to be a Reconditioning ambassador. There is no limit to how many small or huge projects a team or an individual or organization can enter to win medals. For further information please link in with @ReconGamesUK or @betterageing
