Trainees Council

Contact the Trainees Chair (trainees [at] bgs [dot] org [dot] uk)

The BGS Trainees Council is comprised of 18 elected representatives from around the UK who are current geriatric trainees and BGS members. It aims to represent the ideas and opinions of trainees within the BGS. The primary objectives of trainee representation are to encourage the effective training of future geriatricians; promote the involvement of all trainees in the work of BGS; provide a forum for the discussion of issues relevant to the trainees; disseminate ideas and information to trainees; promote and encourage high quality research by trainees in geriatric medicine; engage students and junior doctors interested in pursuing geriatric medicine as their specialty; ensure trainees have a voice in curriculum development and assessment in geriatric medicine; and to represent geriatric medicine trainees on external committees and working groups including:  British Medical Association (BMA); Specialty Advisory Committee (SAC); Royal College of Physicians London (RCP)

If you are a BGS member and a trainee, you should get regular email updates about issues that have been discussed by the committee. Please sign up to the trainees e-bulletin (by logging in and updating your profile). If you are interested in joining the Trainees Council, keep a look out for trainees committee vacancies. Posts are 2 years in duration.
