Do you want the opportunity to develop your skills within an organisation that values their staff and offers a comprehensive wellbeing programme? Then this role may be for you.
We’re looking for compassionate nurses to join us and have opportunities across all our clinical teams. Whether you’re a registered nurse with experience in end of life care or a nurse who would like to develop your career in palliative care we might just have the opportunity for you.
Who are St Christopher’s?
We provide community-based end of life care across South East London, covering the boroughs of Lewisham, Lambeth, Southwark, Croydon, and Bromley. Most of our care is delivered within the community, either in an outpatient clinic or in people’s homes, with our in-patient beds as a back up to that care. Our nursing teams of Consultant Nurses, Clinical Nurse Specialists, Associate Clinical Nurse Specialists, Staff Nurses, and Health Care Assistants provide expert end of life care 7 days a week. Whilst St Christopher’s provides support 24/7, our community teams ‘out of hours’ service work until 10pm every day. Overnight, our advice and visiting service to the community is delivered from our inpatient unit who visit patients at home.
All new patients are initially assessed by our Single Point of Contact team. Just under 50% are then managed by our outpatient services on either our Sydenham or Orpington sites. Patients with urgent needs are assessed at home the same day as the referral arrives by the SPOC team. Our teams all work together, and staff move between all three areas to ensure the work is varied and interesting.
What is Bromley Care Coordination?
Bromley Care Coordination (BCC) is provided by our expert team and commissioned by Bromley CCG. The service enables patients with advanced illness, multi-morbidities & frailty to receive timely and coordinated care in the community. The BCC core clinical team consists of clinical nurse specialists, staff nurses, health care assistants & care navigators who are able to draw on the expertise & support of other healthcare professionals within St Christopher’s as required. The emphasis of the service is on care coordination & aims to help older people & their families to navigate the health & social systems. The nurses have experience & expertise in long term conditions, frailty as well as palliative care.
The BCC team offer advice & support to health & social care professionals caring for patients whose condition is deteriorating & changing. We provide good care to the older person & enable them, wherever possible, to be cared for & die in their preferred place. We aim to reduce unwanted & unnecessary hospital admissions in the last year of life.
What experience do I need to apply?
Nurses applying for our Clinical Nurse Specialist posts will have more experience in a specific area relevant to palliative care/ long term conditions, and be willing to undertake further academic study to support their development.
Nurses with less experience are also invited to apply. The Associate Clinical Nurse Specialist post enables nurses to become clinical nurse specialists in palliative care through a tailored training and development programme.
Will I be able to access training and development?
We actively support and develop all our nursing staff, and work in partnership with Kings College London to provide a wide range of academic courses as well as encourage senior nursing staff to become independent prescribers. We also offer action learning/supervision for clinical staff as well as ongoing support and coaching.
What are the benefits?
We take the health and wellbeing of staff seriously and have an in house programme that includes social events, a community choir, Schwartz Rounds, and for a modest fee, access to massages, yoga and a personal trainer in our gym. We also offer the Cycle to Work scheme, and season ticket loans. Check out our website for further information on all aspects of St Christopher’s on www.stchristophers.org.uk.
