The BGS regularly responds to  external consultations by the UK government and those of the devolved nations that relate to older people's health, social care and wider issues, such as workforce. On this page you can find copies of our responses to recent consultations.

HSCSC Prevention Inquiry

In February 2023, BGS responded to the House of Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee's initial call for evidence for their inquiry into prevention. This initial stage asked for proposals of what the inquiry should focus on.

HSCSC Assisted Dying Inquiry

In January 2023, the BGS End of Life Care and Ethics and Law SIGs responded to the House of Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee's inquiry into assisted dying and assisted suicide.

HSCSC Lessons learned from COVID

In November 2020, BGS responded to the House of Commons Health and Social Care Select Committee's inquiry into lessons learned from COVID. Please note that this inquiry was conducted in late 2020 and the BGS response reflects the situation at that time.

The rights of older people

In October 2023, BGS responded to the House of Commons Women and Equalities Select Committee's inquiry into the rights of older people. 

SHCH Mental Health Inequalities Inquiry

In February 2022, the BGS Wales Council responded to the Senedd Health and Care Committee's inquiry into inequalities in the provision of mental health care.

SHCH Hospital Discharge Inquiry

In December 2021, the BGS Wales Council responded to the Senedd Health and Care Committee's inquiry into the issues surrounding hospital discharge.

Supporting people with chronic conditions

In May 2023, the BGS Wales Council responded to the first stage of the Senedd Health and Social Care Committee's inquiry into supporting people with chronic conditions.

Age Friendly Wales

In March 2021, the BGS Wales Council responded to the Welsh Government's consultation on creating an Age Friendly Wales.

Health and Social Care Strategy for older people

In June 2022, the BGS Scotland Council responded to the Scottish Government's consultation into the development of a Health and Social Care Strategy for Older People.

National Care Service

In December 2021, the BGS Scotland Council responded to the Scottish Government's consultation into the development of a National Care Service.

Proposed Commissioner for Older People (Scotland) Bill

In October 2023, the BGS responded to the Scottish Parliament's consultation on a draft proposal for a bill to establish an independent commissioner to promote and safeguard the rights and interests of older people in Scotland. 

 

Access to COVID testing

In June 2020, the BGS Scotland Council responded to the Scottish Parliament's consultation on access to COVID testing. Please note that this consultation was conducted during June 2020 and the BGS response reflects the sitaution at that time.

Advance Care Planning

In February 2022, the BGS Northern Ireland Council and the End of Life Care SIG responded to the Northern Ireland Assembly's consultation into the introduction of a nationwide advance care planning policy.

DHSC COVID-19 vaccinations in care homes

In May 2021, BGS responded to the Department of Health and Social Care's consultation into mandatory COVID vaccinations in care homes. Please note that this consultation was conducted in May 2021 and the BGS response reflects the situation at that time.

DHSC Increasing prescription charges

In August 2021, BGS responded to the Department of health and Social Care's consultation into increasing the age at which people become eligible for free prescriptions.

Representation on spring budget

National Policy Forum

In March 2023, BGS contributed to the Labour Party's National Policy Forum which feeds into the party's manifesto drafting process.

APPG on Hospice and End of Life Care: Lasting impact of COVID-19 on death, dying and bereavement

In November 2021, the End of Life Care SIG responded to the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hospice and End of Life Care's inquiry into the lasting impact of COVID-19 on death, dying and bereavement.

Strategic Framework for health and social care workforce planning

In October 2021, the Education and Training Committee responded to Health Education England's consultation on a strategic framework for the health and social care workforce.
