Campaigns

From time to time the BGS runs campaigns or calls to action which we strongly encourage members and non-members to get involved with. See below for a selection of our recent campaigns and initiatives.

#BGSInvestInCare: 8 key issues for older people’s healthcare

Ahead of the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement on 17 November 2022, the BGS called on the Government to invest in health services for older people.

Timely Discharge

The BGS’s ‘Timely Discharge’ series  aims to raise awareness of the detrimental effects on older people of being stuck in hospital when they are 'medically fit for discharge'. Our blog series explores the causes of delayed discharges, the knock-on effects to the wider health and social care system, and what needs to change.

#BGSFairCare: Protecting older people in the second wave

BGS encourages members to write to their local MP, MLA, MS or MSP to help influence policymakers to prioritise older people during the winter months.

Fun-guarding

Our 'fun-guarding' initiative highlights some issues, ideas and examples in ensuring older people's need for enjoyment is protected and prioritised in care settings.

How you can help

Some of the ways that BGS members, their colleagues and members of the public can help towards our mission of improving healthcare for older people.
