Special Interest Groups

Developing and sharing expertise

BGS Special Interest Groups (SIGs) represent a range of sub-specialisms within geriatric medicine, from anaemia to community geriatrics. They serve as the Society’s source of clinical innovation, advocating for and delivering high standards of clinical care, and disseminating specialist knowledge.

Many SIGs hold their own annual scientific meetings or feature in parallel sessions at the British Geriatrics Society’s main UK meetings. They also contribute their expertise to BGS responses to government consultation documents, as well as producing and contributing to guidelines and policy statements.

Participation in SIGs is an exclusive benefit of BGS membership. By becoming a BGS member, you gain access to the full value of our community — enhanced support, professional recognition, and meaningful opportunities to shape the future of care for older people. Our SIGs bring together physicians, clinicians, scientists, and allied health professionals who share a commitment to advancing geriatric medicine. Once you join BGS, you can easily join or leave a SIG through your BGS account.
