Who should attend?

Designed to broadly cover core capabilities in Tier 1 and Tier 2 of the Skills for Health Curriculum - Tier 1: Those that require general awareness of frailty. Tier 2: Health and social care staff and others who regularly work with people living with frailty but who would seek support from others for complex management or decision-making.

Why attend?

Ever wondered when to stop statins or start DOACs?

What does frailty really mean? And what is “Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment?”

Why has this person started falling?

And what do you do when someone gets more confused? What if their bloods are normal?

And why might some 85 year olds get lots of tests and treatments whilst others get less (or even none)?

More and more services are being set up to look after older people with frailty. More and more services have to look after older people with frailty. Our Leeds Frailty Education course is designed to help health and social care professionals from all backgrounds to develop a level of understanding that fits with tier 2 of the core capabilities framework for frailty. Tier 2 staff are those who regularly work with people living with frailty but who would seek support from others for complex management or decision making. This may include doctors or ACPs who aren’t specialists in geriatric medicine, AHPs, nurses, care co-ordinators etc.

If you’re in ED, primary care, a secondary care medical or surgical specialty, a community frailty team or caring for people in their own homes or care homes, you’ll gain valuable information on diagnosing and managing frailty and its related syndromes. Really it is suitable for everyone who regularly has to look after older people with frailty who wouldn’t consider themselves as autonomous specialists.

The course has been designed by experts local to Leeds and refers to some local pathways but there will be principles applicable to any area. It will be delivered by enthusiastic experts in frailty and is designed to be interactive, enjoyable and fun. Our pilot feedback suggests it is!

Come and join other like minded professionals to learn more about frailty in the home of one of the UK’s biggest geriatric departments. The course is free for health and social care staff in Leeds with a fee payable for external candidates. You can attend in person, or virtually, subject to places being available.
