BGS Woodhouse Prize in Geriatric Medicine 2025

The BGS Woodhouse prize is an annual prize for the best essay on the theme of geriatric medicine submitted by a medical student in Wales. The prize consists of a free registration to attend/participate in a BGS national meeting (worth £180), and publication and promotion of the winning essay on our website.

Winner 2025:  Sunaina Shah

Sunaina is a final-year medical student at Cardiff University. She will begin her role as an NHS foundation doctor in August 2026. Her interests lie in polypharmacy, prescribing and in reducing the adverse effects of medications, particularly within the elderly population. She is also passionate about medical education and academic writing, and hopes to contribute to advancing both clinical practice and the training of future healthcare professionals.

Click the link on the side of this page to download Sunaina's winning essay, “Navigating the risks and benefits of anticoagulation in fall prone elderly persons with atrial fibrillation (AF).”
