Led international COVID frailty study and paused PhD to work on wards

"Dr Carly Welch is an ST7 in Geriatric Medicine.  She is currently working on her PhD on Sarcopenia in hospitalised older adults. During the first peak of the pandemic Carly volunteered to stop her research activities and return to the COVID wards to work FT.  Despite being ST7 she has stepped up into a Consultant role on the COVID Geriatric ward.  She has provided support and inspiration to her juniors. On top of that, as founder of GeMRC (Geriatric Medicine Research Collaborative), she has led an international study of frailty and outcomes in COVID, with results already published in Age and Ageing. What an inspiration!"
