Dr Amit Arora is the President Elect of the BGS and a Clinical Director for ECIST (NHS England). He is also the founding director of the National Frailty Academy which provides free frailty training to all grades of willing health and social care workers.
He is recognised worldwide for coining and defining the term ‘deconditioning syndrome’ in the clinical context and for his campaigns to prevent deconditioning. In 2016, he developed the ‘National Deconditioning Awareness and Prevention Campaign: "Sit Up Get Dressed Keep Moving," the concept of which has been adopted in UK and abroad and is highlighting the importance of activity in older people.
He led a national campaign #ReconditionTheNation across the health and care sectors in the UK.
He has been a consultant geriatrician in the North Midlands since 2004 and has held several other roles with wide ranging experience. He is interested in all aspects of ageing including quality, policy and transformation with a key interest in preventive geriatrics.
He has served in many national workstreams and is an active member of many advisory bodies related to healthcare and has contributed internationally.
He has over 100 publications including invited book chapters, editorials, reviews and college reports.
