Dr Kirsty Wallace

Kirsty

I am an IMT3 doctor in South East Scotland Deanery, who is currently applying for Geriatric Medicine Higher Specialty Training. I undertook two years as a Clinical Fellow in Geriatric Medicine after my Foundation years, and gained experience in both inpatient and 'front door' care during that time.

I feel passionately about creating a more sustainable healthcare setting, and reducing impact on our environment. The NHS is the UK's biggest employer, and with Geriatric Medicine being the largest hospital specialty it is our duty to ensure we are doing our part to reduce carbon footprint. Climate change affects us all, and taking steps to reduce this is of the upmost importance.

Some examples of ways to reduce our climate impact include deprescribing and only dispensing correct amounts of medications, reducing unnecessary investigations and interventions, and increasing recycling facilities in healthcare settings.

Being a member of the BGS Sustainability Group is an excellent opportunity to discuss ideas with like-minded healthcare professionals, and enact change. I am looking forward to all the great work to come!
