I am currently a specialty registrar in Geriatric Medicine within Wessex Deanery and an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow at the University of Southampton conducting research into functional outcomes following hip fracture in frail older adults.
I joined the BGS Trainees’ Council as a Research and Academic Development representative as I feel passionate about promoting involvement in research for geriatricians at all stages of their careers. I believe evidence-based practice is vital in delivering high quality healthcare to older people and developing geriatric medicine as a research field is vital to this. I attend the BGS Trainee Council meetings and the BGS Research and Academic Development Committee meetings. I am also a member of the RCP Diploma in Geriatric Medicine question writing group.
Involvement in the BGS Trainees’ Council is a great opportunity to connect with fellow resident doctors who share the same enthusiasm to improve healthcare for older adults and expand our exciting specialty.
