Role on the Council

Trainee Council Research and Academic Development Representative

Role on the Council

To represent the BGS Trainee Council at national BGS Research and Academic Development meetings. To promote research and academic training opportunities amongst trainees and explore opportunities for trainee networking and research collaboration.

Meetings

BGS Research and Academic Development Committee meetings, National Trainees Council meetings, BGS regional meetings and national conferences

Reason for joining the BGS Trainee’s Council

I am an Academic Clinical Fellow in Geriatric Medicine at St Thomas' Hospital, where I am currently based at the Department of Twin Research working with an inspirational supervisor and team. I am currently exploring how we use big datasets to predict frailty outcomes in older people. I love the challenge of learning new research methodologies and asking new questions of existing data. I believe that trainees and young researchers are currently underrepresented in academic Geriatrics - and hope to address this by representing trainees on the national committee and promoting research and academic opportunities amongst my peers.

Why trainees should get involved with the committee

The BGS is a national voice in healthcare policy and practice affecting all older people and a major influence on training in clinical and academic Geriatrics in the UK. The BGS is a forum for meeting like-minded individuals and exploring collaborative research opportunities.
