Reason for Joining the BGS Trainees’ Council
Having previously been involved with the BGS Medical Students’ Committee, I’ve seen first-hand the impact the society has in supporting early interest in geriatric medicine. Through attending BGS conferences, I’ve had the opportunity to meet members of the Trainees’ Council and was struck by how approachable and supportive the community is.
As an FY1, I was keen to get involved early, continue building on that engagement, and learn from trainees further along in the pathway — particularly around careers, research and training opportunities within the specialty.
Why Trainees Should Get Involved with the Committee
If you’re a rotational doctor and early in training, the Trainees’ Council is a great way to feel connected to the specialty. It offers the chance to meet supportive seniors and peers, gain career advice, and get involved in projects that help shape training and care for older adults from the start of your career.
