Election for the next BGS President Elect

The BGS will shortly be accepting self-nominations for the role of BGS President Elect. Following an election by the members, the successful candidate will take office from this year’s AGM in November 2026 for a period of two years. On completion of the term as President Elect, they will succeed the incumbent BGS President and serve in this position for a further two years (2028-30).

The role of President Elect, and subsequently President, is a crucial, honorary role at the highest level of the BGS, providing leadership for the BGS to deliver its mission to improve healthcare for older people. This is a rare opportunity to lead and represent the Society and to help shape the care of older people on a national scale.

The successful candidate will support the Society to achieve more impact, influence, and member value. They will provide leadership across all multidisciplinary professions working to support older people’s healthcare in different care settings across the four nations of the UK.

Self-nominations must include a statement of consent, a personal statement of up to 400 words, and statements of support from five current BGS members. If more than one self-nomination is received, an election will be held. BGS members will be notified, with voting taking place between June and July. You must be a BGS member to self-nominate.

Full details on the self-nomination process will appear on our website on 27 April when the process will formally open at 9.00 am.
