Who should attend?

Emergency medicine and Geriatric medicine physicians, physician associates, and advanced care practitioners involved in the urgent and emergency care of older adults.

Why attend?

The RCEM Geriatrics Virtual Study Day 2026 brings together leading experts in emergency and geriatric medicine to address the growing complexity of caring for older adults in the ED. Through a series of focused, case-based sessions, the programme explores high risk presentations, systems challenges, and communication strategies that influence outcomes for frail and older patients.

The day emphasises practical decision making, multidisciplinary collaboration, and patient centred care, equipping clinicians with tools to improve safety, efficiency, and compassionate care for older people in urgent care environments.

Please note, registration for this event will close at 08:00 on Tuesday 23 June.

Learning objectives:

  • Apply structured approaches to assessing complex older patients in the ED
  • Identify and mitigate risks associated with polypharmacy, delirium, and frailty to improve patient safety and outcomes
  • Use effective communication frameworks to support shared decision making and end of life discussions in acute care settings
  • Integrate multidisciplinary and system aware strategies to optimise care pathways for older adults across emergency and geriatric services
