Ghalib Choudhury
I currently work as a consultant in stroke medicine and Geriatric medicine in the east of England. My clinical interests include the interface between frailty and stroke. My non-clinical interests include medical education and clinical leadership. I lead my departmental stroke education programme and am involved in the BGS leadership weekend which is aimed at senior registrars and AHP’S.
My interest in EDI is broad and includes the language used around race, differential healthcare outcomes and the conflict between the equality of opportunity versus equality of outcome for minority groups. The Equality act (2010) defines the 9 protected characteristics which are enshrined in law. However, discriminatory acts, conscious or otherwise, relating to these characteristics still abound. The EDI group has a role in instigating discussion and around these issues, educating people about them and initiating positive change.
