New NHS England hospital discharge funding: Your questions

Late on Friday 21 August, the Department of Health and Social Care announced a £588 million fund to support people being discharged from hospital.

This money is intended to provide care and support for people in their own homes or in care homes for six weeks after discharge.

This funding will become available from 1 September and will be available until 31 March 2021 and is being introduced to help the NHS and social care to cope with a possible second wave of COVID-19 during the winter months.

More information and links to the supporting guidance are available here.

Thanks for all your questions about discharge funding, which were collated and sent to NHS England. Unfortunately we have not received a response. This funding is due to expire at the end of March 2021. We wrote to Rishi Sunak asking him to make this funding recurrent and have made a more recent statement reiterating this call.
