Professor Tahir Masud
Professor Tahir Masud, Consultant Physician at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) is the President of the British Geriatrics Society (BGS).
He began his role in November and is supported by the President Elect, Dr Jennifer Burns
Professor Masud is also an Honorary Professor at The University of Nottingham and he will work with the society to make sure that doctors and other healthcare professionals who work with older patients are fully supported with education and training. The BGS will also liaise with politicians and other organisations via its policy committee to try and improve the treatment of older patients and support for research into ageing.
Specialising in geriatric medicine following his training in Oxford and London, Professor Masud has worked as a consultant at NUH since 1994. Commenting on his new role he said: "I am truly humbled and honoured to have been voted in as President-Elect, particularly as the other candidates were of such high calibre.
"In Nottingham we are at the forefront of research and service development for older people. I will be able to showcase this work on an international stage and bring back learning to further enhance services for our older patients."
