Areas of reponsibility

  • Working with BGS members, officers and staff to deliver the BGS mission to improve healthcare for older people
  • Leading the development and implementation of the Society’s Strategy and Operational plans
  • Leading and managing the BGS staff team
  • Building partnerships with other organisations involved in healthcare for older people
  • Ensuing the Society is properly governed, financially sustainable and compliant with the law
  • Promoting the BGS’s member offer, services, voice and profile
  • Developing new opportunities for influence and impact

As CEO of the BGS, Sarah leads the organisation and works closely with BGS officers, the wider membership and BGS staff to deliver its vision of the UK as a place where all older people receive high-quality, patient-centred care when and where they need it. Sarah joined the BGS in January 2019 from Bond, the UK network of NGOs working in international development, where she was Director of Programmes and Partnerships. She held previous senior roles at the Big Lottery Fund, VSO and the British Council, with a focus on organisational impact, learning and strategy. She is on the boards of the Scottish Power Foundation and Gender Links (South Africa) and is a Fellow of the RSA.
