The next Senedd elections will be held on Thursday 7 May. This manifesto highlights seven areas that we think the incoming Welsh Government must prioritise to ensure that everyone in Wales is supported to age well and has access to the care that they need, when and where they need it.

We'll be sharing our manifesto with party leaders and health spokespeople during the election campaign. However, we would also urge BGS members in Wales to share this with their local candidates, either through writing to them or attending local hustings events. We make seven calls for the incoming Welsh Government:

Call 1: End corridor care in Wales

We call on the incoming Welsh Government to commit to ending the harmful practice of corridor care in Welsh hospitals.

Call 2: Expand capacity in rural areas

We call on the incoming Welsh Government to ensure the healthcare system is configured to provide care where it is needed the most, through expanding capacity in rural areas.

Call 3: Prioritise moving care into the community

We call on the incoming Welsh Government to prioritise moving care closer to home by investing in community and primary care and mandating proactive care in all parts of Wales.

Call 4: Stop preventable hospital harm

We call on the incoming Welsh Government to prioritise stopping preventable hospital harm in older people through developing an action plan to stop deconditioning in hospital settings.

Call 5: A healthcare workforce equipped to care for older people

We call on the incoming Welsh Government to ensure its healthcare workforce is equipped with the skills to provide high quality care for older people with multiple conditions, including dementia and frailty.
