Last chance to have your say on the BGS Mission and Strategy 2020-2023

10 April 2019

The BGS is in the process of setting out its strategic direction for the next three years and would greatly value the thoughts and opinions of members

We invite you to help us determine how we should focus our resources and efforts in support of the BGS mission to improve healthcare for older people. We are keen to have your feedback and thoughts on key areas, including:

  • What should we aim to achieve in the period up to 2023 and where can we have most impact?
  • How can we influence the systems and policies that shape NHS services for older people?
  • How best should we support development, learning and research within our Society to strengthen the quality of the healthcare members provide and advance knowledge about geriatric medicine?
  • How should we best use the strength of our multi-disciplinary membership to improve practice across acute and primary care and in the community?

Over the next six months, the Society’s trustees, office-holders and staff will be developing the BGS Strategy 2020/23. We will review where we’ve come from, consider the changing operational context for health and social care, and explore how to maximise BGS strengths and distinctive position. We will set strategic goals for the next three years, and plan how we will collectively achieve them.

Please contribute by completing a short survey by 14 June 2019. This will take no more than 5 minutes to complete.

We will be promoting the survey over the next six weeks, and will keep members updated through the Newsletter as the strategy process proceeds.

Members will be asked to approve the new Strategy to the AGM (part of the BGS Autumn Conference) on 8 November 2019. If you want to see what we’ve been working on over the last three years, take a look at the current Strategy, 2017-19.
