Vacancy: BGS Medical Student Representative
The BGS is seeking to recruit a medical student representative to participate in its Trainees Council and Education and Training Committee.
- Term: two years
Eligibility
- Eligibility: All medical students who are not in their final year are eligible to apply to this position.

If there are multiple expressions of interest, there will be a formal process to appoint a representative.
Role
- To be an ambassador for Geriatric Medicine.
- To raise the profile of the British Geriatrics Society across medical schools.
- To be the named point of contact for all medical student queries.
- To keep an up-to-date list of medical school geriatric societies and their Chairs and to support them where possible.
- To disseminate information about upcoming events and meetings to medical students.
- To help with the organisation of the event and meeting where possible.
- To contribute towards shaping the geriatric medicine curriculum at medical schools along with the BGS Education and Training Committee.
Support
You will report to the Education and Training Committee who will be able to assist you and will take your feedback and concerns forward.

Time Commitment
- Approximately: 2 hours/week.
- Education and Training Committee meetings: 4 formal ETC meetings a year: (1.30-3.20 via Teams)*
- Trainees Council Meetings: 3 formal meetings a year: (13:00 - 16:00 via Teams)*
*: If you are unable to attend the meetings due to classes, exams or placement etc. you could coordinate an alternative meeting time with your Chair.
Opportunities
You will have the opportunity to attend the Trainees Council meetings and see how the different committees contribute to the national BGS and drive service improvement, clinical quality and education in Geriatric Medicine.
You will have the opportunity to get involved in a project with senior support as part of the BGS.
You will get the chance to input into the medical school geriatrics curriculum that will shape the training of geriatricians to come.
Recognition
You will receive a reference letter recognising your input and time on the Council.
