BGS Deputy Chair NAHP Council Elections 2026-2028
All current BGS Nursing and Allied Health Professional (NAHP) individual members are invited to vote in the election for the next Deputy Chair of the NAHP Council Committee. Voting is now open and closes at 9am on 7 September.
The Chair and Deputy Chair lead the NAHP Council Committee, working with members and BGS staff to set agendas, oversee meetings, discuss key issues affecting older people’s healthcare, and support committee activities and outputs.
This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the Society’s work, influence health and social care policy, and improve services for older people.
All three candidates have provided a personal manifesto outlining their vision for the role, which can be viewed below.

Fiona Green
I am an experienced nurse with over 30 years’ practice across community, primary, and secondary care. In my current role as Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) for frailty, I focus on complexity, proactive care, and delivering person-centred services for older people. I am passionate about improving outcomes while providing leadership across multidisciplinary teams, supporting colleagues, and promoting integrated neighbourhood working across organisational boundaries.
As a Queen’s Nurse since 2013, I have demonstrated a strong commitment to leadership, networking, and embedding advanced practice. I actively contribute to influencing policy, identifying research priorities, and supporting improvements at local, regional, and national levels.
Workforce development is central to my role. I support trainee ACPs, nurses, AHPs, and doctors, fostering collaboration and promoting a pragmatic, person-focused approach that prioritises quality of life. I am committed to embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion into everyday practice.
Over the past year, as an active member of the BGS NAHP Council and the Healthcare in the Community Group, I have contributed to strategy development and workforce initiatives. These experiences and connections have inspired me to apply for the Deputy Chair role, which I would approach with enthusiasm, bringing my understanding of community systems and collaborative leadership style to support delivery of the BGS strategy.
I believe the growing influence of NAHPs within BGS is vital to the future of integrated care. As Deputy Chair, I would ensure the council remains grounded in the realities of multidisciplinary community working, advocate for the profile of community care, and represent the BGS externally to drive meaningful improvements in care for older people.
Joanne Lowry
I have been a Registered Nurse for 16 years and qualified as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) since 2025. Throughout my career, I have specialised in the care of older people across a range of settings, developing a deep commitment and passion for this field. Alongside my professional experience I bring personal insight as a carer previously for my father who lives with dementia and currently for my grandmother who lives with frailty. These lived experiences combined with my clinical background drive my determination to improve the quality of care for older people.
I am applying for this role because I care deeply about the Nursing and AHP workforce, I am committed to ensuring that frontline staff- who are often unheard have a voice and that their perspectives inform service development and decision making. Having personally experience feelings of disconnection from policy makers I am motivated to bridge this gap by acting as a link between frontline colleagues and those shaping policy.
My leadership style is proactive, inclusive, and collaborative. I am committed to listening to BGS members and actively advocating on their behalf. I have a strong track record of working effectively within multidisciplinary teams both within my Trust and across wider ICB systems. I also lead monthly geriatric MDT teaching sessions to support workforce development and upskilling. Additionally, my experience as a Trustee for a dementia care group enhanced my leadership capabilities at committee level. As Deputy Chair, I will use my clinical expertise, lived experience and passion to advocate for both older people and my Nursing and AHP colleagues.
Amanda Riley
I am a qualified therapeutic radiographer with over a decade of acute clinical experience in oncology. During this time, I increasingly gravitated towards supporting older people, recognising the need for a more holistic, person-centred approach to care. This led me to join a community Frailty Hospital at Home team, where I have worked for the past six years. I completed an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice and now practise as an Advanced Practitioner in frailty and AHP Lead for the Urgent Care Service.
In 2023, as a Darzi Fellow, I piloted and implemented an Ageing Well Clinic within an integrated care centre, bringing together AHPs, ANPs and Health and Social Care Coordinators to deliver one-stop frailty assessment and advance care planning. Since 2024, I have been seconded to the South East Faculty of Advancing Practice as Training Programme Lead for AHPs. I work strategically to strengthen NAHP advancing practice across the South East, promoting parity and equity in learning opportunities, supervision and professional development. As part of this role, I co-develop and facilitate an inclusive community of practice that enables NAHP trainees to learn from one another, build supportive networks and thrive in practice.
I am committed to strengthening AHP representation across the NAHP Council and broadening engagement from the full multidisciplinary workforce supporting older people. My leadership experience spans service redesign, governance, stakeholder engagement and community leadership, including serving as a Parish Councillor and collaborating with Age UK and the local authority to deliver initiatives tackling social isolation and fuel poverty. I bring enthusiasm, clinical credibility and a collaborative approach to amplify NAHP voices and champion high-quality, personalised multidisciplinary care for older people.
