Course Overview

This course provided an introduction and overview of dementia, its management, and community care strategies.

It reviews dementia's impact and how to recognise its various types and symptoms. This includes some common assessment tools for dementia diagnosis.
Promote early detection and prevention through lifestyle choices and timely referrals are also covered, as well as implementing innovative care approaches and leveraging community resources for effective support.

By applying these insights, you can contribute to improved dementia care and patient outcomes.

Learning Outcomes

This microlearning module aims to help you to:
  • Understand how dementia affects individuals living in the community
  • Describe the main types of dementia and recognise how they differ in presentation and progression
  • Explain the classic stages of dementia and how needs change as the condition progresses
  • Identify early signs and symptoms of dementia and recognise when further assessment is required
  • Be aware of appropriate referral pathways 
  • Understand the key principles of ongoing management and support for people with dementia, and their carers
