The BGS Autumn meeting will cover the latest scientific research and the best clinical practice in care of older people. Our ageing population is stimulating extensive NHS service redesign to deal with the challenge of caring for larger numbers of older people both in and out of hospitals. This conference will cover core areas of interest to all specialists responsible for the health care of older people.

Flexible attendance options & registration fees for 2024: In person or online

The is no difference in registration fees for in person and online meeting attendance. The registration fee provides access to the conference or online platform for the days you are registered. On demand viewing post event will be limited to the days for which you have registered and paid

There is a flexible transfer from in-person to online attendance as clinical service and life balance require. Please check our FAQs first for any queries you may have about attendance or on demand watching.

On-demand access is available for 12 months post event.

Community and Primary Care

STREAM 1: Room 3

Morning sessions will focus on Proactive care in Primary Care and Population Data, Digital and Care Homes What’s Digital got to do with it? Lessons from the South West? Including:

Afternoon practical clinical sessions and a series of community and primary care clinical masterclasses including:

Stroke

STREAM 2: Room 4

All sessions and talks will be dedicated to this important curriculum theme, including:

  • Professor Chakravarthi Rajkumar, will set the scene, looking at developments in stroke care
  • Dr David Hargroves, Innovations in stroke care

 

Fully Funded Places: In person or online

Members in Category B, C and D are now eligible to apply for a new BGS event grant. This will cover the registration cost for a BGS conference, either virtually or in person. Applications can be submitted from the event registration page, and should be requested and approved before completing registration.

Registrations from 20 September 2024 onwards are at the normal price.

Your organization can register attendees and pay the registration fee by card only they hold on your behalf (A Proxy registration). There isn’t an option for invoice payment for our virtual and hybrid  conferences. The steps for a proxy registration are outlined on https://www.bgs.org.uk/hybrid-event-participants.

Changing circumstances

All in person attendees can access the content online, if your circumstances change. We have a flexible cancellation policy in that if your circumstances change.

  • If you can't come in person, and tell us more than 2 weeks before the meeting you are able to cancel attendance and access to the on demand recordings for a 50% cancellation fee.
  • If you can't come in person, and inform us less than 2 weeks before the meeting we can't refund you but can transfer to a colleague. If you can't transfer the registration place to anyone, you can still watch the online content live or on-demand for up to 12 months

The registration fee is per day, and grants you access to the online or on-demand content via the BGS website for that specific day.

The Platinum Suite Excel London Elizabeth Line Travel Times to ExCel London

The Platinum Suite, Excel is located in the central boulevard, recently refurbished and is a self-contained conference centre ideal for meetings. There are multiple ways of travelling to ExCel: Elizabeth line (Custom House station), Underground and DLR (ExCeL can be accessed via two DLR stations: Custom House and Prince Regent), cable car or Uber Boat. Accommodation in recent years has increased in costs and this year keeping costs low is important. Study leave budgets are always under pressure and never seem to go far enough.

Other Top Tips:

  • The most affordable hotels are located away from the immediate area of ExCel, when searching for accommodation, use the search filters to look for:
    • Hotels located close to the Elizabeth Line, this line offers direct access to ExCel and you can pick the station closest to your preferred location
    • Search by star rating, 3 star hotels will offer lower rates
    • Use the drop down sort filter to show hotels in price order (low to high) and also, discount order, showing those hotels that are offering any special rate

Other sites and booking directly with the hotels may be cheaper - please do shop around.
