Joining and working together to improve undergraduate education in geriatric medicine: Launch of the UK Geriatric Medicine Educators Collaborative

Moderators: Grace Pearson, Ellen Tullo, Rebecca Winter.

Educators from all fields and stages of healthcare professions education are welcome to join us for this 1-hour interactive, hybrid workshop. We will introduce the Geriatric Medicine Educators Collaborative (GMEC). We will begin with introductions from GMEC founders, Becky, Ellen, and Grace. To follow, there will be an interactive discussion with an opportunity to share your challenges and priorities for undergraduate education in geriatric medicine (so, please think about these in advance). We will conclude by collectively agreeing upon the remit, aims, and sub-groups of GMEC in undergraduate education in geriatrics.

Who should attend:
  • All healthcare professionals providing education and training to those at an undergraduate level
Session aims:

This interactive session will cover progress and future plans to help support education in geriatric medicine at undergraduate level.

It will present some of the background challenges as medical schools expand and curricula change, and highlight key areas to focus on.

Led by Dr Rebecca Winter, Dr Ellen Tullo and Dr Grace Pearson, the session will share these challenges of geriatric medicine education and collate the audience’s ideas on future actions. By the end of the session we aim to have a shared goal for the group and action plan for year.
