Noted Geriatrician Inderpal Singh awarded OBE

The BGS is delighted to offer our heartiest congratulations to Inder Singh for being awarded an OBE in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours List for services to Osteoporosis Care in Wales.

Inder is currently a Consultant Physician & Geriatrician with an interest in Falls and Bone Health, an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the School of Medicine, CU, and the National Clinical Lead, Bone Health in Wales. He has spoken at both national and regional BGS meetings, and he is on the leadership and management faculty for our Leadership and Management Course. He and his team have submitted numerous abstracts to BGS events, and he is an avid champion of the BGS.

Professor Jugdeep Dhesi, BGS President, said:

Huge congratulations to you, Inder, on this amazing achievement; it is a wonderful and richly deserved honour. I am personally very pleased for you, as is everyone at the BGS!

Inder said:

I am deeply humbled and honoured to have been recommended for an OBE. In my roles as National Clinical Lead within the Welsh Government and subsequently NHS Wales Performance and Improvement, I have had the privilege of working with teams across all Welsh Health Boards to strengthen care for older people, particularly in falls prevention, frailty, and osteoporosis.

This recognition reflects the collective commitment of clinicians, nurses, allied health professionals, managers, and support staff across Wales. I would like to pay particular tribute to our Welsh Fracture Liaison Service and Bone Health teams, whose dedication continues to drive meaningful improvements in patient care.

I would like to wholeheartedly thank the British Geriatrics Society for its support throughout my career. Since joining the Welsh geriatric training programme in 2006, BGS membership has enabled me to connect with colleagues across the UK, present quality improvement work at Welsh and national conferences, and gain invaluable feedback and encouragement, helping to foster collaboration and progress in this field. The BGS is a great platform for trainee and wider MDT members to develop their careers.

I also wish to acknowledge the Royal Osteoporosis Society for its national leadership, advocacy, and evidence-based approach, which have been instrumental in advancing osteoporosis care. I am equally grateful to our partners including the Bevan Commission, the Falls and Fragility Fracture Audit Programme (FFFAP), and the third sector whose collaboration has been central to shaping improvements across Wales. Close working between the FFFAP team and Welsh colleagues has supported significant advances in hip fracture care and the implementation of the Royal Osteoporosis Society’s 80/50/80 standards, culminating in a universal Fracture Liaison Service mandate across Wales.

Above all, I wish to acknowledge my wife, Manmeet, my daughter, Reetika, and my son, Keerat, whose support and understanding, particularly during long evenings of work, have made this journey possible.

This honour strengthens my commitment to delivering high-quality, equitable care for our ageing population and to supporting the workforce who provide it.

Congratulations, Inder, you deserve it!
