Explaining Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) to patients can be tricky. We have produced a printable leaflet and infographic explaining the process in non-clinical terms to help you when discussing CGA with your patients.
Most of the BGS’s resources are written for an audience of healthcare professionals. CGA is such an important tool that we wanted to produce an explainer to help older people and their families understand its purpose and approach. We’d love to hear your feedback on it.
For further information on CGA aimed at a clinical audience, visit our CGA Hub. The hub provides a full overview of the concept and process of CGA, with explainers on each of the domains, and guidance on when to use it.
With Modern Service Frameworks (MSFs) on frailty and dementia and on palliative and end-of-life care due to be published in the coming months in England, we hope to see an increased focus on identifying and managing frailty. Timely CGA improves diagnosis, treatment and person-centred care and therefore will be vital to achieving the goals of both MSFs.
