In this presentation, the development of current Dutch nursing home care and nursing home medicine wil be shown from the past until now.
During the years, nursing home physicians in the Netherlands started also to work partly outside their institutions and especially in the role of GP supporting physicians in the community. Following this trend , the name nursing home physician has been changed into elderly care physician. In the presentation an outlook to the future will be done as well.
This lecture will discuss the importance of care home work in the 24-hour care of frail older people. Many countries in the world have already ‘put in place’ strategies to support retention/recruitment of staff, and dealing with the increasing complex needs of this population. What this looks like and how it has moulded the vision for a teaching/research-based care home centre for Scotland will be shared.
