Meetings
Trainees council meetings, BGS Trainees update meeting at biannual BGS meetings and Annual trainees weekend, BGS RADC Committee
Reason for joining the BGS Trainees’ Council
The main drive for me applying for this post is to ensure trainees are encouraged and supported to carry out research during their training.
I am keen to broaden the scope and number of geriatricians conducting research, in addition to representing the specialty nationally and internationally, gaining the recognition they and their research deserves.
As the research and academic development representative, I wish to provide a forum for trainees, enabling discussion of: the opportunities available in research; the difficulties we as trainees face; and the opportunities available to collaborate with colleagues nationally. I also wish to distribute research information and ideas to trainees to ensure we are up to date with the literature relating to our patient group.
Why do you feel trainees should get involved with the committee?
We are all aware of the challenges facing Geriatric medicine in this current time. Academia in Geriatrics is no different. The committee is a fantastic opportunity to meet like-minded people who have a common interest in the specialty and its evolving nature. It is a great privilege to represent fellow trainees nationally. I believe being part of the committee is a great opportunity, not only for ones own personal professional development but it also gives us the opportunity to acquire skills, which we can contribute towards our own career path.
Length of committee position: 2 years
