Dr Sara Sheikh

I joined the East Midlands region as Geriatric registrar in 2023 having completed my foundation and IMT training in the East of England. It’s been like coming back home since I trained in medical school here. I have always had an appreciation for holistic medicine and particularly admired the Geriatric approach to patient care.

Reason for joining the Trent Region Committee

• Nearly 30% of the UK population are predicted to be over the age of 60 by 2030 and two-thirds of those aged of 65 to be living with multiple chronic health conditions. This lends those in the field of Geriatrics a pivotal role in developing and improving multidisciplinary population services - an area which I am personally interested in.
• Getting involved with the BGS tackles this at a regional level while building relationships with likeminded colleagues and improving our skills as clinicians. It is a privilege to be part of this specialty and advocate for an often vulnerable patient cohort.
