UEMS rep on the BGS Education and Training Committee

The BGS is seeking a volunteer from within the membership to represent the Society at meetings of the UEMS (the European Union of Medical Specialists) and to provide feedback on these meetings to the BGS Education and Training Committee (ETC). This is an unpaid voluntary role open to members of the Society interested in medical education and ideally experience of international governance. As a speciality, the BGS has two representatives in the UEMS, one approved by RCP London (on advice from the BGS) and one appointed directly by the BGS. The latter appointment is to succeed Professor Tash Masud, who is demitting as he becomes President Elect of the EUGMS. They will work alongside Professor Mike Vassallo, who is the other UEMS rep on the ETC.

Main Responsibilities

Attend at least one of the two annual European UEMS meetings on behalf of the specialty (usually online);

Attend meetings of the BGS Education and Training Committee as appropriate, currently held four times a year via Teams, and report back to the committee on all relevant issues (e.g. updates on European Training Regulations, Common Training Frameworks, curricula, and specialty examinations). It is not necessary to attend all four meetings of the ETC.

Tenure

The UEMS rep normally serves for a period of 3 years on the ETC.
